Clayton, the house museum, has been installed to represent the daily life of the Frick family at around 1900. The furnishing and decorating plan is based on historic documents and a series of photographs taken at the turn-of-the-twentieth-century.
Many of the works of art and decorative art objects on view at Clayton are installed exactly as they were during the Fricks’ residency-consequently, the family sitting room features landscapes by Claude Monet and Childe Hassam as well as a small painting made by Childs Frick when he was a boy.
Clayton’s power lies in this sort of authenticity-details that remind you that the house itself is the largest artifact on site. In addition, the Frick’s architectural collection includes the Playhouse/Visitor’s Center, Car and Carriage Museum and Greenhouse.
