The Visitors Center
Built in 1897 as a playhouse for the Frick children, the Visitors
Center is now the starting point for all Clayton tours and houses the
Museum Shop. Inside the Museum Shop--in addition to a choice selection
of gifts, toys, books, and jewelry - you can see, under the floorboards,
the Frick childrens bowling alley. In the small parlor, where
docents meet with their tour groups, there is a display of Frick family
photographs printed from archival negatives.

Clayton Days. Picture Stories by Vik Muniz
$24.95 softbound only. 90 pages, black and white. Item #0101.
While working at the Frick Art & Historical Center in 1999 and 2000, Vik Muniz chose Clayton as a site for exploring the many traces that remain of the people who moved through its rooms more then a century ago. His suite of images is an open narrative compelling viewers to test the veracity of what they see and to imagine their own stories within his constructed history. The result is a haunting, ominous exploration of childhood and a glimpse into an adult world not yet understood by the innocent persona of Muniz's viewer. This catalog has been made possible by a generous grant from The Heinz Endowment. Please refer to item # 0101 when ordering this item.
